Student Leadership plays a vital role in the running of DSLV; assisting and supporting both staff and students and is split in to three main areas: student voice, student council and the young leadership team.
Student voice focusses on collecting feedback and having proactive meetings with students from a range of years to ensure both behaviour, teaching and learning remain at the highest level.
The Student Council is run by the prefects, involving over thirty students across Key Stage 3 and 4. All students are encouraged to apply and receive information on how to do this from their tutors.
The young leadership team involves approximately twenty prefects who are split between two different roles: Form prefects and departmental prefects. They are led by the Young Leadership Team: head boy and head girl; deputy head boy and deputy head girl and heads of year.
Prefects visit various forms twice a week to assist the form tutor and to support the younger students as well as organising fun activities; for example; a weekly quiz.
Departmental prefects assist teaching staff in their lessons through supporting students and offering help with work. Each prefect is assigned to a department, to which they offer an hour a week. This time is spent in lessons but also helping to prepare notice boards and other displays.
