A Great Start For Year 7 Students!
Our new Year 7 students have had a fantastic start. They have all had a very busy couple of weeks of lessons, making new friends and enjoying the opportunities of their big new school! The students have been learning a great deal of new and exciting subject knowledge.
In Drama they are studying Story Telling and Genre and have got stuck in to practical workshops where it has been clear that there are some keen budding actors in the making.
They have been exploring the different areas that Technology has to offer, including; Food, Textiles, Graphics, and Resistant Materials. In Textiles, they have been learning about design briefs and how to analyse them. They have then moved on to learn different hand stitching. They looked at running stitch, back stitch, cross-stitch and some even moved on to blanket stitch! The boys in particular have really enjoyed the challenge and produced some outstanding samples.
In Graphics, the students have been looking at music branding. They have been researching different music genres and discovering what branding is, and have been producing their own typography samples. The students have worked really hard to produce some fantastic pages.
Resistant Materials lessons have involved discovering all the different tools and equipment, how they work and how to use them safely. The students are working towards making a garden trowel. They are using various techniques with wood and metal to make them and they get to take them home at the end!
The Year 7 students have been trying out the different sports DSLV has to offer, within their first weeks they have had a go at Handball, Tennis, Badminton and Football and have had a lot of fun whilst doing it!
They have had such a dynamic first couple of weeks at secondary school and we cannot wait to see how they develop throughout the year.
