Our approach to learning
At DSLV we believe that our students are entitled to good lessons as standard. We believe good teachers do certain things and that all lessons will include certain elements, which are:
- Collaboration in learning
- Communication of learning
- Critical Thinking in learning
- Creativity in learning
These elements will make all lessons engaging, interactive and challenging for our students. Consistent lessons, including these elements, will ensure that our students make strong progress in all lessons, ensuring excellent achievement in assessments and ultimately in end of Key Stage national tests, where applicable.
At DSLV we believe that the teaching and learning in all lessons will not only give our students the knowledge and skills do achieve well academically, but they will also develop the skills needed to successfully deal with challenging situations in the world outside the classroom, whether in employment, higher education or socially.
As you will see, from the subjects and content taught, we believe in a broad and balanced curriculum. This is based around a strong core of mandatory skills for life outside DSLV, taught in English, Maths, Science and PE. This is enhanced by a range of subjects that will enable our students to be successful adults in their everyday life, from Humanities, Creative Arts, Technology, Modern Foreign Languages and Life and Society. Our goal is to produce confident and resilient students through excellent teaching and learning.
